Senior retired officers say Bush must go

The LA Times is reporting (here) that 26 retired senior diplomatics and military officers, many of them appointed under Republican presidents Reagan and Bush's father, have issued a statement urging Americans not to re-elect Bush.

The US has historically always used alliances to amplify its power, the officers noted. The officers say Bush's diplomacy has been a disaster that has alienated the governments and populaces of formerly friendly countries. Previously Administrations worked so hard to establish good relations with many of these same countries, the officers noted.

The LA Times noted that it was highly unusual for a group of retired officers to issue such an overtly political statement in the middle of a presidential election campaign.
